I began teaching private lessons while I was in high school about six years ago and have continued teaching privately ever since. I really enjoy passing on information that I have learned throughout the years to other aspiring individuals. I continue to stress to my students the importance of listening to all types of music as well as having a regular practice schedule. I always try and make sure that the student is having fun and is working on material that they truly enjoy. Read More

I love to see my students become successful! I do my best to tailor each lesson to their specific needs and goals. I will always encourage and bring them up to a new level; but I am very encouraging and want them to have fun. I will teach a person as many ways as I can to get them to understand a concept; relying on intuition and the multiple intelligence theory. Read More

Feeling and noticing that there has been gradual success is key to inspiring students to continue with their instrument. Playing a musical instrument presents numerous challenges mentally, physically, and sometimes emotionally. As long as the work is being put forth by both parties, finding success (even if small) will not be a difficult feat. Read More

The first thing a teacher must do is figure out how to motivate a student to practice. This can be done differently for different students. I will list some things that I have found that work. 1) Set a practice schedule/timer/alarm 2) I work on mindset and practice techniques to reduce practice session frustration/anxiety and increase positivity and feel good emotions 3) The student selects songs to practice in addition to scales, lesson book or repertoire 4) Parental support and priority 5) Listening to music outside of lesson 6) Practice one concept at a time 7) Limit faster passages to smaller groups of notes, practice slow with different patterns. 8) more in lesson!....... To me, it's important that my students not only gain an understanding of technique and theory, but also an appreciation for the spirit and philosophy of music-making. Whether this includes conversation about each student's unique aesthetic or vision, or the general principles involving listening, leaving space, and communing with other musicians on an almost spiritual level, I do try to integrate at least a little of this type of discussion in my lessons. I do not have that much "professional" teaching experience. However, I have taught guitar to some friends over the years. I have just decided to begin teaching. As for experience, I have been playing guitar since I was 9. My parents met playing guitar and I grew up in a very musical household. In addition to guitar I play saxophone and a little piano, but these are not my main instruments. Read More

From there, we create a plan to help you get to where you want to be, whether that be fundamental (breathing, embouchure, articulation, registration), advanced (riffing, ornamenting), musically (ear training, theory), or stylistically (classical, musical theater, pop, rock, etc). Guitar/Bass/Ukulele: I usually start beginners with the Hal Leonard method books, but also incorporate riffs and chords of your favorite songs from the very first lesson. Methods and techniques are needed to take your playing to the next level, but you also want to jam with your favorite songs! Read More
