I base my students' curriculum on their individual needs and interests. I strongly believe in learning fundamentals and the principals of music through scales, music theory, ear training, and reading music notation. I believe it is equally important for students to develop their own musical interests and goals so that we can apply all of the practiced skills in a fun and meaningful way. An example of this would is if a student wanted to learn a Beatles song I would have the student learn the chords and melody, but also the associated major/minor scale that song uses and develop an exercise that would be helpful towards learning the song. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Alfred piano series books( lesson, solo, theory and technic book) and Elementary method trumpet book, Essential elements.Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. Since every student has different goals I like to plan my lessons accordingly. I found it very useful to devide the lesson into 3 parts : Technique, reading and drumset studies. Whether the student is excited about rock, pop, jazz, hiphop or samba, this method creates a solid foundation for the drummer's ultimate goal - to groove on the drumset! For beginners, I like to focus on proper position and proper technique. This is done by making sure students sit properly and we will begin strengthening right hand and left hand via arpeggios and simple etudes Aimed to focus on these areas . For example , Mauro Giulianis 120 etudes for right hand and other methods like carcassi and we will advance as time comes. I have taken ABRSM London School of Music exams and continued to showcase my skills in school, shows, and gigs. All students learn at their own pace. I will spend a lot of time getting to know the student as a learner and as a human so that I can be of better service to them. I love having my students keep a journal of their lessons so that they may catalogue their progress as they have more and more lesson.
