Instruments: Trumpet
The most important and fundamental thing you can teach a student about music is that it can always be enjoyable. Music should be enjoyed, by the audience as well as the player. This is key to following through with music, I will always try to find a way to make the exercises I assign fun, or atleast not overly boring or repetitive. Students should be given more than one goal at a time, some of these goals should be very short term, while others should be long term, this instills a sense of confidence, but not a sense of hubris. My teaching style is very focused on the student's desire to learn what they want. Very early into taking on a new student, I try to find what/who inspires them. Doing so allows me to tailor my teaching to each individual student. I also like to have 3 main "small improvement" objectives for each lesson. There's improvement on what we did during our last lesson, improvement during the lesson with something new I will introduce, and improvement for our next lesson with something I will give to the students to work on themselves after our lesson. My methods, practice, and philosophies is as follows: Practice starts with a routine in listening, sound and technique. Music supposed to be fun and enlightening, filled with accomplishments. I believe that when the student sees his advancement or growth they want to do even better. For the beginner, we would need to evaluate their needs working through the Arbans Complete Conservatory Method. This book has everything they need, as well as for the advance, and proficient students. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar Double Bass French Horn
For beginning horn students I use the Rubank method as well as my own combination of etudes. Once the student has a solid understanding of the fundamentals a regimine of solos and etudes will be assigned, followed by the standard solo repertoire. For bass and guitar students I have my own method book that focuses on music theory, technique, as well as improvisation. I strongly believe in adapting my materials and method to best suit the student and the students need, I will work to help you achieve your goals! Read More
Instruments: Trombone Euphonium Tuba
I do not have a beginning method book that I prefer, so I typically use a student's band method book for early lessons. For advanced students I prefer the Bordogni/Rochut etude book and the Blazhevich clef studies, along with a solo. I use scales with students of any level, and expect for students to eventually have all the major and minor scales memorized. Read More
