Instruments: Piano Flute Ukulele Recorder Piccolo
Materials: Flute: Rubank Elementary/Intermediate/Advanced Method, published by Hal Leonard, along with relevant supplemental materials (solos, pieces from student's school band, duet books, etc.) Piano: Alfred Beginning Piano Series Philosophy: I believe in a collaborative approach between teacher and student. My style is based mostly in questions I ask of the student, asking them what they're thinking, feeling, and experiencing as they play certain passages or exercises. I believe in metacognitively working through the experience at an age-approrpriate level to master complete understanding of the musical instrument and the music itself. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Drums Organ Synthesizer Keyboard
There are so many methods to use. I started off in the church as a worship leader, piano player, and a drummer. I believe in learning to read music and playing by ear. It is a reason why I teach both. Ear training is good for a lot of churches if you decide to play or sing in one. Not all churches use hymn books but some do so that's why I teach site reading as well. Read More
Instruments: Piano Clarinet
I have been teaching since high school, both piano and clarinet. I continued my instructing career in official capacities as Intermediate Clarinet Instructor at the Potomac Wind Academy and as Clarinet Instructor at Colerain High School. Teaching independently and as a representative of a larger organization require different skills and I have developed these skills accordingly. In lessons, I pride myself on a proper balance of positive encouragement and personal accountability. Read More

My methods vary as do each and every one of my students. I feel that a classical background is paramount in learning proper technique in piano. The student can add his/her own genre to the mix, once the fundamentals are achieved. (In fact, I recommend this highly). I like to offer some of the apps that Apple and Android computers have as there are many and suitable for all ages/levels. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I believe that the first step to singing is confidence. Therefore, I focus on building up my students confidence and knowledge to give them the ability to face performances and auditions. I love working with students of all ages and it is extremely rewarding to watch them flourish as the months go by. Having a classical background will prepare you for any type of music you'd like to play down the road, so I believe in teaching the basics first and then encouraging my students to branch out, according to their own interests. Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
Developing respect and passion for music is paramount in music lessons. I don't believe in forcing method books and content that, at the end of the day, the student doesn't care about, on my students, they should have a voice in what their being taught. I tailor my teaching style to fit every single student differently. Young players must learn scales and etudes, but that is usually only for half of the lesson; the other half usually consists of finding inspirational performances and pieces that will be FUN for the both of us to learn. Instruments: Piano
I love music and have studied piano since I was six years old. I also studied organ and clarinet briefly. My degrees are in Psychology and Communications. I worked for state and federal government agencies and was a writer and producer for CNN/Atlanta for ten years. I enjoy teaching piano and now have six students ranging in age from 4 to 36 years of age. I also enjoy tennis and am a former law student, but found the latter not to my liking. Read More
