Instruments: Trombone Euphonium

I have experience teaching students of all ages and ability levels in various settings. I have tons of performance experience performing in professional opera pits, orchestras accompanying premier vocal artists, subbing in regional orchestras, and even playing on albums for new classical artists. My true passion is sharing my experiences and pedagogy expertise to bring out the best in talented students. Additionally, I performed in many trombone quartets, trombone choirs, and other various brass ensembles and that sense of community is something I aim to bring to my students. Read More

I have played musical instruments since I was 11 years old when I began on the clarinet. I was that child who always wanted to play everyone else's instrument too, so when I grew up I became a music teacher so that I could learn them all. I have taught music in the elementary schools for nearly 10 years and often take private students on the side. I believe that learning to love making music is the key to success. Read More

Progress is made at the student's own pace. I try to set goals that are both far-reaching and realistic. Anything is possible if you don't give up too easily! I've used a variety of different lesson books in the past. It's important to note that the Bastien piano books, as well as the Clark, Faber, and Alfred methods all play to different strengths. Since different students respond better to different methods, I try to incorporate some variety which focuses on several concepts: developing ear-training (i.e. picking up melodies and chords from ear) as well as sight-reading, technique, and choosing interesting repertoire. I will organize a manageable number of tasks for duration of each lesson to my students. Then, I will determine the progress of the students by assigning them with appropriate tasks to practice plus music theory. It is more rewarding when seeing my students grow and love what they are learning. My teaching style is to teach them by their character and learning pace. By tailoring what my students' ability to learn music skills, I am more prone to teach what they can achieve in their every lesson. Read More

Instruments: Cello

I believe a student's progress depends on how motivated they feel during practices, so I work with students while putting emphasis on patience and encouragement. As a usual protocol for beginning students, I start with one active scale and an easy Suzuki solo piece (ex. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star), slowly introducing simple etudes when progress is noted. I usually demonstrate a piece before assigning it to the students for homework so that they have a better idea of what the piece should sound like in terms of both tempo and how the notes should be carried. I prefer to let the student's personality and general skill level dictate the pace and style in which I teach. The greatest detriment to a student's progress is a lack of interest, so I try to give the students as much say as possible when deciding what piece of music they will be learning. Every student develops their skills at their own pace, so my key concern is keeping the students motivated and interested in everything we do during our lessons. Read More

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
After you release a work of music, you're not in control of how people react to it. The works that go unnoticed by the majority of my viewers can sometimes be the ones that I'm most proud of, even if to the outside opinion it seems as if they are "unsuccessful". Throughout someone's career in any particular field, there will always be ups and downs. It's important to always keep yourself grounded and true to yourself because it can be easy to lose sight early on when success doesn't come your way at first.

What does a normal practice session look like for you?
Varies depending on student. For beginners, I like to

What is your dream piece to perform and why?
New Divide by Linkin Park. I've never seen any vocalist perform that song with as much power as Chester Bennington had.

If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
If I were not a muscian, I would probably look towards a career in business and finance. My father has had success in this industry, so I have the advantage of learning from someone with qualified experience. The knowledge I have already gained as a musician can even be beneficial towards long term career goals such as those. I feel fortunate enough that my skills and accomplishments as a musician have already led me to a point where I can see the bigger picture of life, but I think it's important to develop a career in an industry in which you already understand the requirements for success.

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
My musical roots are based in rock, blues, and jazz, but as a musician, I try not to trap myself in the shortcomings and limitations that genres inherently provide. While studying the engineering side of music in school, I developed the respect and admiration for the production of electronic and pop music, these genres of music are as influential if not more influential today than "classic rock" and in terms of physical performance, they require little to no expertise in that field in order to create music on the same level of quality that the professionals do. With the combination of all these different influences, my sensibility as a musician I feel is not only modern, but diverse as well, so it is difficult to name a favorite genre.

If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
My introduction into the world of music was from the natural inclination to write music, so playing piano, guitar, bass, and eventually music production all came to

Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
I'm the only musician in my family that I know of.

When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
When I realized someone would pay me for the thing I was already doing for fun.
