For beginning students, I always start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I've found this book to be the best at introducing the instrument and reading the music. I may or may not continue teaching out of the books (there's 3), but that depends on the student. By book 2 or 3 I usually begin introducing Suzuki, as there are many solo pieces for them. Suzuki is also great for teaching technique, which is essential to their skill-set. Read More

I have taught a wide range of ages from 8-75 years old. I am able to teach a wide variety of musical styles, also including music theory, composition and ear training. If you need help with solo/ensemble music for region or your are just looking to learn guitar for fun, I can help you achieve your goals. I enjoy watching students succeed. My musical styles include, jazz, classical, popular and blues but I am pretty versatile and have the knowledge to teach many styles. Read More
Instruments: Piano
My methods vary with the age of the student. For beginners who are children, I usually start with Alfred's Basic Piano Library, which I try to go through most of that series. During that time, the children will occasionally play anything they wish to play that is interesting or fun to them. When they are finished, we will go into many different solo pieces for them to play to further advance their knowledge and performance of music. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I studied with my Dad who played for Duke Ellington. I went to city college in NY where I learned much about jazz history. I've played with the Ellington Band and learned much about music. I am very passionate about drums and started teaching about 4years ago and I have helped many students get to where they want to get on their instrument. I have also studied out of Houston Texas where I've worked with musicians like Tweed Smith from the band War. Read More

I like to first access the student and their proficiency level. Once I discover your weak points I focus on them and drill them to perfection. Once we have those down. Of course it takes much practice on your part at home alone, then we can move onto actual music and integrating all the skills you learned naturally into harmonious music.--There is no set way to my teaching style because every student is different and must be addressed with their own distinct methods and styles of learning. -I do not teach in the way schools teach their subjects such as history or math. -I learn the student before I can teach the student based off how they live, interact, and learn. Often times, I am teaching myself something new that I am not acquainted with. This gives me the ability to always think as a beginner and to figure out how I can convey information to different students with different learning styles. I have experience teaching classical and jazz lessons. I love growing musicians into be the best that they can be. When I first began to study jazz and bought theory books and listened to jazz in order to get better. Read More
