I really just want people to enjoy what their doing. I definitely have some skills to efficiently practice, because I dont think anyone wants to waste time. The best thing is when my students are invested in their own progress, because I can help provide the needed skills to grow at different paces. I am a bit more relaxed with students that just want to have a positive musical experience, but I also can be very specific with students that wish to go on and study or perform music professionally. Instruments: Piano Keyboard
I was born in New Bedford, MA to a musical family. I began piano study at age six and eventually decided to seek a degree in music, with an emphasis in piano performance. My love for the instrument is as a teacher, and it is that love for teaching that brought me to be a classroom teacher of general music for ten years. I have served as a church musician, both at the pipe organ and the piano, and I have also been a choral accompanist for college and community ensembles. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my first year in Yamatai. As a more advanced percussionist, I took it upon myself to assist my fellow new recruits with learning the material outside of regular practice times with the Musical Director. With percussion, we found that taking a piece and breaking it into small sections that were easily repeatable gave the best results. I took these techniques over to the drum set when the time came, and found ways to make simple drum rhythms more interesting and engaging. Read More

For young children, I usually choose teaching books that are more fun and give them a basic start with understanding musical symbols by performing tasks in their books. Once students begin to understand how to read and play, I start to introduce the next level of material for them. For adults, I focus on what they are interested in and give more in-depth theory or compositional discussions if they wish or guide them towards playing pieces they always wanted to learn. Read More

I work closely with my students on crafting a lesson plan that best suits their interests. I've never been a homework guy; instead, I like to inspire my students by following their desired goals. Want to learn how to play like Metallica? Let's do it. Want to write songs like Taylor Swift? I'm game. Want to play bass like Flea? That's a challenge I'm up for. I like to consider myself as not only a teacher, but also as a bandmateyour goals are also mine, and we're working together to help you achieve them. Read More

Hi everyone! I'm so excited to announce that I'm going to be teaching private or group Violin, Viola, Cello, and Ukulele lessons! I understand how important it is to recognize every child's individual needs and learning styles. I try to learn each child's learning style very quickly so I can teach them in a way that makes the most sense to them utilizing lost of "games" and fun activities in my lessons. Read More

For a typical lesson Ill teach half basics and theory and the other half songs or anything the students interested in. I am adamant that the student's are practicing at least 30 mins a day. For guitar I strongly recommend using Hal Leonards Guitar method books even if were only working out of it for a quarter of the lesson. For piano I recommend a Hal Leonard book without question. I do pass some handouts of pieces, exercises, etc that I feel are worthy for the student. Read More
