I will typically introduce my beginner students with some scales and etudes from Simandl's 30 etudes book. They start out rather simple, but throughout the book many concepts are introduced that are important for understanding how the bass works. As well Simandl Book one is a wonderful book to introduce the positions on the bass and has many helpful exercises inside. I led the musical theater program at Trinity Catholic Middle School for two years, have sung and acted plays at Curtain Call, and even helped produce the Boston Pops Fireworks spectacular last year. For vocalists interested in jazz, I'll use The Real Vocal Book for material, and to teach out of, I'll use my beginner piano and guitar books for sight reading, and teach my own techniques from memory. I began teaching private flute lessons when I was in high school to younger students in the Amityville school district, Amityville, NY. Once I began student teaching on Long Island, I began building a small studio of flute students. I then moved to NYC where I taught in the NYC public school system for 9 years teaching 6-12 grade. In that time, I started the music program at my school where I built 5 choruses, an orchestra, recorder class, a Broadway appreciation class, a step team and completed numerous other tasks. Read More
