For young beginners I typically with Suzuki Book 1 or the Abracadabra Flute Book. For children preparing for NYSMA I use the Rubank method with supplements from Forty Little Pieces and gradually move on to more solo repertoire. For adult students I make repertoire selections based on students' interests while taking care to keep lessons both engaging and fun no matter their starting level. Although my training is primarily classical, I am happy to incorporate music from other genres into lessons. Read More

I'm an experienced musician and educator with the strong belief that anyone can learn and love music. I studied music at the New England Conservatory and Harvard University, and I've had the privilege of traveling throughout North and Central America performing jazz, classical, rock, and many other types of music. I've also been lucky enough to appear on recordings by a variety of artists, including singer-songwriter Ben Zaidi, acclaimed indie rock band The World Is A Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die, and bass phenom Esperanza Spalding. Hi! I'm Zoe, a conservatory-trained classical and musical theater vocalist. I have over 10 years of experience teaching private vocal and piano lessons, working with students of all levels in classical, musical theater, and jazz styles. My teaching approach combines vocal exercises to assess progress, technique-focused repertoire, and student-selected music to keep lessons engaging and fun. I emphasize building a strong foundation in technique while fostering confidence and healthy vocal habits. Read More
Instruments: Voice
All levels of voice are welcome in my studio! For beginners I generally begin with giving the basics of how the voice functions and focus on breathing for singing. Then we ease into vocal exercises. After the first few lessons we move on to singing a simple song. I encourage the student to bring in music they like and would like to sing. I begin teaching every student with the same vocal exercises to strengthen the voice and then we discuss different styles and how the voice can change stylistically but not technically. Read More

Because everyone learns differently, I teach from a technique I've developed which I refer to as the blank slate method. Though I do utilize workbooks for their very informative and easy to understand nature, I prefer to teach each student based on what they know or what comes naturally to them. This involves you the student, your instrument, and a pen and paper. For beginner students who are children, we work together to learn a simple song so that they can feel a sense of accomplishment and be further motivated to continue their studies. Read More

I'm a very laid back teacher and I do my absolute best in making my students feel comfortable and also have fun while in the process of learning the art of music. I will give the students the tools they need to learn their instrument or instruments. I expect them to use the tools that were taught and practice at least thirty minutes per day and at least five days per week. Read More
