My first music instruction job was at a summer day camp. I was 19. I taught group guitar lessons. I've been teaching private music lessons ever since. I, myself, had wonderful public school music teachers as well as private instruction in piano and voice. I teach my students what I was taught. No matter what kind of music the student wishes to learn, knowledge of music theory must be taught through the materials being studied. Read More

I love to teach music and how to play an instrument to any student at any stage in their educational development. I hold two degrees in Instrumental Music Education from both Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. I have been an active performer throughout my career, participating in several ensembles in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Florida in a wide variety of music genres including classical, jazz, bluegrass, American folk, and latin. Seeing my students develop a passion for music is very rewarding. Each student progresses to their own pace; no rush whatsoever. Setting goals that they can achieve will encourage them to progress on track. Acknowledging their accomplishments will keep their desire to continue learning more. I recommend that when they practice, to have them play it for an audience, like family or friends. That way they can be comfortable playing for others because when they are put into recitals, Student Day, the National Guild of Piano Teachers, etc. they'll be able to play at ease, and at the same time, enjoy it too. At other times I studied with members of the Ensemble Modern in Germany. Most recently my musical studies have focused around composition and experimental music performance. I believe that the ultimate lesson that I learned from the best of the teachers, was how to teach oneself how to teach oneself, as you are your own best teacher. I believe that I can impart and share the knowledge that was shared ot me, for the next generation of performers. Read More
