I have been teaching private lessons since High School, and have maintained a home studio ever since. I have taught young students of all ages in one-on-one settings in my studio, as well as in classroom settings as a group strings teacher and as an orchestra and general music teacher at a K-8 charter school. I bring with me years of experience in bringing music to life for kindergarteners, teenagers, and everyone in-between (I enjoy teaching adults, too)! Read More

I stress the importance of reading music from the get go. I do understand however that some (adults) only want to learn to play some songs for their own personal gain, and not have to mess around with note reading. (Guitar is an instrument that can be played by ear, and to some degrees at a high level.) To that I do not require any books. I'll always reiterate the importance of reading..."Just think how good Eddie Van Halen would have been had he been able to read music!" For Children: Mel Bay Children Guitar Method 1 (Blue Turquoise cover) For beginners steel string and jazz: Hal Leonard Guitar method book 1 (Black and Orange cover) For Classical: Foundations in Classical guitar by Brian and Mary Lou Roberts I ALWAYS strive for the student to become familiar with performing and playing with others. My intense love and dedication to the study and performance of music is reflected in both my teaching and guidance of all my students. Also, as a musician I demonstrate to my students how important it is to comprehend the true nature of performance in order to efficaciously communicate with audience. Im usually teaching with Alexander technique which intense to use natural voice technique and try to teach what is the song about and which emotion singer has to have for the song. Read More

I encourage lots of individuality and fun. Music is a way to express yourself. I'm never teaching for the purpose for the student to become better than others to win awards and perform at recitals. Self expression and achieving personal goals to me are far more important than winning competitions and on-paper accomplishments. I'll always tailor my lessons for each individual student, and I'll try my best to keep my lessons within the student's area of interest. Read More

My teaching methods are based on what interests the student. For beginning students, I begin my lessons with the basics of the instrument and use beginning method books for basic techniques. In addition, I choose some basic popular songs to give them an excitement for what they are learning. For students who have a bit more familiarity with the instrument, I tailor my lessons to the needs of the student. Read More
