For my beginning classical music students, I require four inexpensive keyboard books for learning and skills. I use the John Thompson series for basic learning. A notespeller by Alfred is used for theory. In addition, I use two other study books. The Alfred Technic book is aimed at measurably increasing a student's skill at the keyboard. I also use a recital book for extracurricular study. As my piano students progress with their lessons, they graduate into more difficult levels of these needed books. Read More

I have been teaching privately since 2006. I specialize in jazz drum set, but I can teach all sorts of styles of music as well. In addition to drum set, I teach rudimental, marching and classical snare drum, classical percussion (mallets, timpani), afro-cuban percussion (congas, bongos, timbales), sight reading, music theory, and beginning piano. After earning a Bachelors degree in Percussion Performance from Humboldt State University under Dr. Eugene Novotney, I continued my musical studies at the University of Ghana in West Africa, and have since been to 21 different countries in search of exotic sounds and rhythms. People don't realize how important daily consistency can be, even for a short span of time. As students grow and become more comfortable on the horn, I slowly start introducing more and more advanced concepts, while still giving them room to experiment on their own and discover their own interests. There are a few exercises that I will continue to enforce, but for the most part, I try to avoid pushing any student in a certain direction when it comes to repertoire because the most important thing is that they stay engaged and develop a passion for the music. I have worked for the Thornton Community Engagement Program and the University of Southern California during my freshman year of school. During my time in this program I have found multiple teaching techniques to engage the student in the rudimental material of theory through their favorite songs.
