My teaching journey began in and throughout college in 2016, when I began teaching lessons privately, and after receiving my second degree, I teach from my in-home studio. Since I began studying at a young age, I have a special love and passion for helping my students with the piano. Teaching students from five years to 75 years, I am thankful my teaching experience has been very diverse; I enjoy the challenge of an advanced student, and the energy of a new student; always looking to bring on new students of all ages. Although this is my first official teaching job, I began teaching back in 2011 during my freshman year of high school. I had the pleasure of conducting and teaching both concert and chamber orchestra. I then became a student assistant my senior year and was able to do one-on-one's with the younger students. I encourage my students to go home and practice their scales. They are the key to the perfect bow hand/movement, structure, and agile finger movement. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
I started teaching while I was in college. I started working with a local high school band, where I was in charge of marching as well as the woodwinds. I would run woodwind sectionals and from those students, I gain private students. I have given lessons on flute, saxophone, and clarinet. I like to reinforce what is happening in classroom as well as enrich their music experience with supplemental materials. Read More

My teaching experience dates back three years in college. I participated in a program through my University that provides free lessons to students in the Harrisonburg area. My student from this program won $1000 scholarship to attend her dream University in Florida. I believe that all education starts with relationships. My students are important to me and through trust and mutual respect, we can accomplish so much! I encourage students to practice regularly. Read More

I find that the most rewarding aspect of being a teacher is watching a student develop a stronger passion for music than they had to begin with.Students are encouraged to make manageable goals for each lesson so that they can feel a sense of achievement throughout the entire learning process. The smaller goals keep the students motivated constantly enabling them to become a better musician. By focusing on the process of learning, students are learning a set of skills that will enable them to learn pieces quicker and allow for a more rewarding end product. Read More

Each student progresses at a different pace, so lessons are designed according to the strengths and weaknesses of each individual. Personal accomplishment is key to the students motivation, so its important to set maintainable weekly and monthly goals, in addition to performance pieces and recital opportunities. Read More

I started out playing cornet in elementary school, switching to Baritone horn in middle school and switching to tuba in the high school band. I also began playing bass guitar in those high school days in the late '60s and early '70s. Playing in rock bands, I decided to Study music at Norfolk State and Old Dominion University, after high school, wanting to learning more about music. I began playing professionally with the Norfolk Symphony, played in the pit band for touring Broadway shows, and subsequently hit the road as a touring musician with popular regional dance bands.
