Whenever someone describes what music is, they will use words like passion, expression, life, love, or things of that nature. NEVER will someone say music is scales, theory, or sitting alone in your room practicing. I aim to combine the theory and basic knowledge of music with the purity of expression that comes whenever you're on stage. With this style of learning, you'll never want to put your instrument down! I use a two pronged approach to my lessons. I start with fundamentals, especially focusing on two areas: sound and counting. 1.) Sound: Over the last 34 years, I've found that the student who does not sound good - even though he or she can play all notes and rhythms - will not be pleasing to anyone who hears them play. What good is it if he can play all rhythms and notes and sound bad? Read More

I have 5 years of varied teaching experience, as a private instructor, working in several K-12 school environments, and I also hold teaching experience at the undergraduate college level. I enjoy working with students of all ages, and I bring an enthusiasm that centers fun for my young students, while also grounding my lessons in music theory that's tailored to the age and skill of my student. I like to encourage improvisation and spontaneity, but also provide a structure of lesson assignments and exercises. Read More

The key ingredient to learning is interest. I believe that my students need to have an interest in what they are playing so that they can keep their minds and spirits engaged. Rudiments require attention and practice, but there is much more to learning an instrument than just technique; passion also needs nurturing. If a student is really in to Star Wars, for example, I will gladly incorporate the 'Imperial March' into their rudimentary studies. Read More

One year after graduating from KD Conservatory, I moved to the Philippines and started my own original band called Alchemy Band. We performed several times a week at local venues. Most of the band members were full-time college students and due to the overwhelming workload, some of the members could no longer keep up with performance demand. I was simultaneously performing with a well-known girl-group called SILK Party Band and eventually became a full-time member performing "Top 40" hits from the 70's to current, 6-7 times a week all over the Philippines. I try to cater my lesson style to the individual students desire and needs. I like to always incorporate the fundamentals of music and technique while exploring the material at hand. Some key points I try to incorporate into my teaching are an understanding of: rhythm, technique, playing from ear, improvisation, theory, and most importantly making music! I usually encourage my students to seek out music they like and specific songs they want to learn. Read More

If a student is losing interest in learning I would brainstorm and adapt my teaching style to be more relatable to their learning style. I encourage my students to use skills they learn in our lessons to compose produce original music, perform with friends, perform in local music recitals concerts and simply have fun with what they've learned! I've taught students from 6 years of age to adults and believe music is a joy deserving for people of any race, gender and age! Read More
