I have taught in the Mesa Public School District as an Accompanist/Vocal Coach since 1996. I currently work at Mountain View High School and teach Extensive Sight-reading, Vocal Training and Accompany all eight choirs on the piano/keyboard. I teach the basics of flute playing including how to produce a beautiful tone, how to play with good posture, how to play rhythms and articulations properly, how to sight read and how to play standard flute repertoire. Beyond this though, I believe students who have a firm grasp of how music theory, music history and musical style combine can play with greater musical understanding and expression. I began playing electric bass at 14 and started a band at 15. We won 1st place in NMHS Battle of the Bands and at 16 we recorded out first album and had our first performance on the radio. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began to my internship and student teaching at elementary and high schools around the valley. I like to include my students' opinion when planning their lesson curriculums. I don't believe in lesson plans that don't allow flexibility and providing the students with opportunities to pick repertoires they are interested in. I teach how to read music and mainly use Faber & Faber method for both children and adults. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Faber and Faber primer level. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce scales and solo repertoire.
