I love to watch a student fall in love with music. It is very exciting to see the excitement of being able to accomplish a piece of music that they have worked on. I encourage students to find music that they want to learn and to open them up to different styles and history of where the music came from. I come from a classical / jazz background so i am very happy to teach any style that would excite a student. Read More

First its the posture method and focus control which basically is meditation applied in the musical field and the right synchronization with the tongue and breathe. the next method(s) is focusing on the students embouchure. then i like the yamaha book for starters and a couple other good books. I also like to spend some lessons just working on sound and free lancing as well as other lessons dedicated to sight reading, musical phrasing, articulation, styles of music...ect...I also have days where we have music appreciation by taking them on trips. I began teaching private students while in college through a music store in Ellicott City, MD. I taught students from age 6 to 15. I had up to 15 students on varied occasions. I maintained students on and off throughout my 7 years of music teaching in public schools following graduating from college, but lost many students when I relocated from Baltimore to Lancaster. I am hoping to network and develop a studio of students again. Read More

My teaching style is very student-oriented. So it varies from lesson to lesson and student to student. The goal is for my students to become more confident singers and musicians. In order for that to happen lessons need to be focused on them. I could spout teaching philosophies and strategies all day but in reality every student is different. Everyone learns differently and I make sure my teaching style stays flexible to accommodate that. Read More

No matter the age of the student, I work to find music to which the student can connect both musically and psychologically, which is important in keeping the student engaged and motivated. I don't use a particular teaching methodology or repertoire series, but instead pull from a variety of pedagogical techniques and song anthologies, tailoring each lesson to the student, where they are in their vocal development and on that particular day. Simply let me know at the next lesson so I know right where to help. No need to stress or worry if there is some confusion. Learning music is similar to learning another language; those first lessons, especially with drums, will have some basic learning curves, but I am sure that with practice & time you or your child will be excellent! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
