My lessons are all about you. I'm a firm believer in the Carol Dweck's 'Growth Mindset' mentality. There is no such thing as failure or disappointment. Only the opportunity for growth and learning. I promote the steady improvement of fundamentals for all ages and skill levels. Every student progresses at a different rate. I like to set goals on a regular basis to help push you to be the best you can be. Read More

I began teaching private lessons in electric guitar in 2016. I had been teaching to a wide range of students of different ages and musical backgrounds, from beginner to advanced. I have also taught in 2 musical schools (MUSA School of Music) and Los Olivos. Most of my students were mostly interested in Guitar Techniques and learning songs. In addition to that, I also teach Music Theory, Harmony, Arranging and Orchestration. It all sounds boring on paper but the core foundation of my teaching is that students must enjoy the journey of learning the instrument. Read More

For beginning students, i like to start with the Essential Elements method book. The pieces in this method book are good for beginners because they are short and simple. For more advanced students, I like to delve into the Suzuki method books and then into more advanced solo repertoire from there. However, each student is different, so each student's lesson may look different. I also like to see what pieces or scales the student is interested in learning and incorporate that into the lesson plan. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding then passing your love for music on to a student. Each person learns at there own pace and skill level. With each lesson we will set small reachable and realistic goals. These goals will fit in with your larger overall goals. My teaching style is different then others as I'm able to tailor each lesson to fit your needs rather then go through a strict regiment. I primarily use original material when I teach, but occasionally Ill work from standard method books such as Stick Control, Master Studies, and Syncopation, or assign pages from more recent books like John Rileys The Art of Bop Drumming. Ill also pull out books specifically for sight reading such as Anthony Cirones Portraits in Rhythm. For beginning and intermediate students I focus on fundamental technique, basic sight reading skills, and drum set playing (independence/coordination of the limbs, relaxation and balance, time and groove, fills and solos, introduction of musical styles, etc.) For advanced students I get into more conceptual and creative aspects of playing the drums, but I also introduce the Spivack/Wilson technique which I learned during my studies with Murray Spivack and Richard Wilson in the 1980s [check out the 4-part series featured in Modern Drummer magazine in 2011-2012]. This line of work allows me to reinforce my teaching skills as I have to be able to teach and explain to my students very dense and complex terms. Music is very similar to computers in that they both must be learned in small increments or steps in order to see the bigger picture. During my graduate studies, I had the opportunity to teach young adults and adults alike. This experience allowed me to widen and increase the breadth of my studio and reach out to all age groups.
