I have been proudly teaching general and instrumental music in the Cleveland Public Schools for the last twenty-three years. Once the student has progressed and has a good grasp of the fundamentals, I will bring in other repertoire appropriate to their level. Positive reinforcement is everything! While there will always be room for improvement and growth, it is crucial to acknowledge successes throughout each lesson. Learning a new instrument requires patience, practice, and determination, and reinforcers can be a huge motivator (I know they were for me when I was learning). I am a Classical linguist turned Vocal Performer and choral conductor who believes that active participation in music improves quality of life for all ages. I have had multiple different instructors throughout my life, and some of them seem to have had their own agenda and what they wanted me to be learning.
