I have been teaching since around 2011, after only have been playing guitar for 2 years. I learned very quickly , primarily playing metal and jazz. I played trumpet in band when I was a child, so this helped me learn to sight-read music on guitar. This allowed me to play in the university bands at both schools I attended, mainly playing jazz music. Knowing the music theory behind what you're playing is so important and helps the music make much more sense. For beginners, I usually start with teaching you basic technique on the instrument. For example, how to hold the instrument, notes on the fretboard, how to count and play at the same time, etc. Once the student progresses, I begin to teach you more intermediate techniques, music theory, ear training, and learning songs. For beginning students, I typically start with lessons I have developed to get them on the right track . Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce bass parts that are appropriate for their first performance with other musicians. Ultimately every student is different and has different needs and expectations. With that in mind I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
