I taught my first lessons over ten years ago now. I was only in high school then but I was very entrupenurial even then passing out flyers and posting them around my school gaining several students even then. This lead to me receiving several scholarship opportunities to many music programs around the country but I decided to stay in Orlando and go to school for completely free. since then I have played with bands and traveled and continued to teach music lessons. No matter the age of the student, I believe in project-based learning: I help my them write songs, make arrangements, record albums, and prepare for recitals. They will develop a respect for the craft of making music, the more creatively involved they are. A list of a couple highly recommended instruction books is given to each student on their first day. This is to help them grasp the basic language of their instrument. Read More

I like to set goals with my students, so they are self motivated and to ensure the goals are ambitious. I like to incorporate humor and games into my lessons that strengthen the student's interest and ability. I acknowledge my student's strengths and encourage them to continue to improve in other areas. Read More

While there is no "One-size-fits-all" for all students, I start most students off with Essential Elements or Suzuki. As they progress I try to include pieces they like, pop songs, and different genres. The variety helps them stay engaged, learn a bit about different styles to broaden their knowledge, but also, have fun. As they get intermediate levels the paths diverge. Some of my students are doing Jazz improvisation, some of them, composition, and others are getting ready to audition for college. Read More

After my undergraduate was completed, I began working at a franchised music eduction school for a year and a half. I had 20 students ranging from keyboard, drums, vocals, and I also was a Show Director for the various shows put on each season. This experience was invaluable as I refined the way I should handle lessons one-on-one as well as how to manage a group. I try to instill the drive and discipline that any musician can benefit from. My experience with music is through my life experience in all the facets of music I've been involved with. I have been teaching for over 30 years and nothing is more rewarding for me than to have a student have the "light going on moment" that I've seen on more than one occasion. I believe if a student is bored then they have the wrong instructor, and I pride myself on not allowing that to happen. Read More

My teaching style is fairly relaxed. The pace depends on the students' goals and skill level. Most importantly, I want the student to have fun! I like to encourage students to become proficient in reading, but I only will use books that suit the students needs and desires. As such, there is no one book or program that I depend on. However, I do insist that students practice and come prepared to each lesson. Read More
