We begin to work on the voice that way, and then graduate to vocal exercises from the Vaccai exercise book and simple vocal pieces such as folk songs or one of the 24 Italian Arias. For beginning students who do not read music, I focus on singing small melodies while learning to read the music and listen to the tune. This is crucial for ear training. Some students progress better with curriculum and disciplines right off the bat, while others need the instrument as more of an expression and an outlet, so Ive learned to respect that. If the student seems to take interests in the disciplines of the instrument right from the start, my go-to curriculum for guitar is Mel Bay. Read More

Depending on my student's familiarity with their instrument, my approach to their lessons will differ accordingly. I thoroughly believe in teaching each student with a unique approach, one that caters both to their learning style and how comfortable they are playing in front of others. As a very shy child growing up, it was very difficult for me to play (and especially make mistakes) in front of my peers. I like to keep this in mind for my especially shy students. Read More
