My teaching style varies greatly depending on the student. I adapt to each student in order to find the most effective way to both inspire a passion for the music, and to help a student advance in the most effective way possible. I usually begin each lesson by discussing how practicing went the previous week, and adress any problems that might have arrised in both finding time to practice, and in inspiring each practice session to both effective and engaging. I am a firm believer that anyone can be a phenomenal musician, all it takes is practice and a teacher who is passionate, caring, and understanding of the frustrations of learning an instrument. For every student I always start with the basics. What are the basics? Well, first and most important for getting you started is open chords. That along with pentatonic scales will really help to develope finger dexterity and get the student adjusted to proper hand and finger positioning on the guitar. During that same period we will practice strumming patterns and exercises to fully bring the use of both hands up to a level that allows us to play simple songs. Read More
Instruments: Clarinet
I’ve enjoyed teaching the clarinet since I first decided to get serious about music in high school. During my undergraduate years in Greencastle, IN, I took several clarinet pedagogy classes and began teaching local students in the DePauw University Preparatory Program. In my junior year, I entered a 2-year apprenticeship with the Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble where I worked with community partners to engage students in classical music performances and appreciation. Although my degree is in composition, I am also an accomplished percussionist, guitarist and ukulele player. While in college, I realized more and more that I had a passion for teaching music. Once I graduated, I began teaching full time at a private school for grades JK-4th. Read More

I am a flute player of over 15 years with 8 years teaching experience who is passionate about providing quality lessons, especially to students who would not otherwise have access to them. I am a professional flautist and graduate of Berklee College of Music. Growing up, while I was blessed with a wonderful mentor on flute, I knew a lot of people who never had the chance to take lessons. Seeing students' excitement to learn and watching their progression makes me even more excited to provide the best instruction that I can. Read More

The basis of my teaching style is transparency. My aim is to be as clear as possible about what I expect from my students, and how they can improve. I believe great technique is the proper foundation for any musician, and I will always give the students exercises along with songs that will help my students to develop proper technique. Most of all, I try to make sure that my students have fun. Music is supposed to be fun, so maintaining a sense of humor is a good thing in my opinion. Read More
