Instruments: Drums Mallet Percussion Orchestral Percussion
For beginning students I like to find out how much experience they have had in music and find out what they want to get out of these lessons. If they are just starting out I'll start with the basics, how to hold a drumstick, the parts of the drum set, correct posture, etc. I believe that all students regardless of age and level should learn how to read music. My students will not only be learning how to play drums by listening to bands that they like but also by reading drum sheet music and learning basic theory. Read More

I use established curriculums for all my students. Each curriculum varies based on the student's age and skill level from beginner to advanced. Keeping each lesson interesting and easy to understand from a natural perspective is key to my teaching method toward accomplishing each student's goal. Music is about having fun and helping someone discover a new level of creativity that awakens our creative well being. I like to teach the fundamentals of music, and encouraging students to express themselves as they learn and evolve. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
My method makes understanding the breathing, support and execution of the voice the first priority. After this is achieved, exercises are assigned to further develop range, control, strength and vocal agility. The bottom line is that although it takes years to develop a strong, skillful and sensitive singer, it should not take years for a singer with good tutelage and a willingness to work hard, to sing competently. So without the ability of the student to make a good tone and control the voice, all the exercise cds and books are useless. Read More

My teaching style is individualized to meet the needs of the students. I like to use a portion of the first lesson to discuss the goals and musical interest of the student regardless of age. I encourage beginner students to learn basic theory to develop rudimentary skills. I then try to incorporate a student’s favorite music into the lesson plans. I also strongly encourage voice and guitar students to write their own music to promote self expression. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 15 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 10 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical, gospel, christian, jazz and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Instruments: Violin
I began teaching violin to beginner-intermediate players as an undergraduate studying music education. My own teachers emphasized a consistent practice schedule and ensured I enjoyed learning, and I seek to do the same with my students. My career in communication led me to teach students of all ages and showed me how to create a comfortable learning environment, look for underlying patterns that cause and block success, and open dialogues throughout the process. Although I have experience teaching both private, one-on-one lessons and group lessons in a classroom setting, I find that one-on-one lessons is the best way to learn. This allows students to go at their own pace and not have to feel rushed. Not to mention, it's way more enjoyable to learn when you have a patient teacher giving you support and motivation. I don't like to rush students because after all, most students just want to learn for fun. Read More
