I have always focused on teaching each student holistically. I hope to influence students in their discovery of music through various modalities of learning, including visual, auditory, proprio-kinesthitic (movement), with a special focus on audiation. I find this to be a very good book to help grasp the fundamentals of the instrument for beginning players. I enjoy teaching music and working with students and believe that learning to read music will enable the student to play with other musicians and enjoy music as much as I have. I try to put myself in the student's place to think as he/she does and help them understand music and perform it. I began to play in church shortly after beginning piano lessons in 2nd grade. Everyone comes at music from a different angle, therefore I approach teaching each student from a different angle. One of the most important things to me is to teach the student how to use their head before they try to produce a sound. Learning an instrument can be very fun and extremely satisfying, but it takes more work than most people expect. It is very easy today to record lessons and send students home with different songs to play along to. Drums are much more fun when you play with other musicians and one way to do that is with recordings. Again there is room for me to bring music to the student, but also room for the student to bring something to me that they want to learn.
