Having studied under a number of very different teachers, I have learned that motivation to practice comes and goes, but passion is what builds a lasting foundation for musicianship. I have teacher training in Suzuki Violin and Cello; Dalcroze movement, solefege and improvisation in piano and have applied it to all disciplines; Paul Rolland strategies for violin playing; Aldo Parisot principles for cello playing; Austin Classical Guitar Institute, Albuquerque Guitar Chamber Ensemble and Summer Festival; and Ashtanga Yoga as well as having a degree in Music Education from Western Michigan University. Along with a strong background of fundamentals found in Faber's Adventures, Burnam's Step By Step, and Snell's Repertoire, I help students from five to nine with personal selections based on interest. Examples would be Disney songs (Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast), Gospel and Religious (Jesus Loves Me, the Dreydl song), or superheroes (Spiderman). Ten to 14-year olds have used favorites from around the world -(everything from Greensleeves to Malaguena, In the Hall of the Mountain King and more superheroes like Batman and Iron Man), plus classics by Beethoven and Bach. I first started teaching guitar in high school after i got a few lessons from someone i looked up to in high school. From then on i have loved to teach music to all ages!. My longest student started at 12 and by time he was 17 years old i told him he would be having to teach me a few things soon. we became friends and were in a band together for a while until i moved south, i loved having that connection, and i hope to find plenty others like that. it makes me feel good knowing others are gaining from my teaching so i do my very best! For example, I use the famous "Syncopation" book for students when they are ready to learn snare drum and bass drum together. I can also transcribe songs for drumset and I program midi files of music for students when they are having trouble with a particular part of a song or a specific rhythmic pattern or concept. I've been playing piano for 45 years, and have taken private lessons a total of 15 years with three different teachers.  Music is my passion, and so is teaching, so it brings me a lot of joy to share this with my students.  Music has taken me down many avenues in my life, starting at a young age.  My family are all musicians, so it has been a constant in my life.  At one point I played for church, and as a teenager I played for a ballet class.  Like I mentioned before, I've done many weddings and funerals, and look for any opportunity to play piano.
