I had so much fun working with the elementary school kids that I decided to build a studio up of my own and ever since i have been working with a number of students ages ranging from 4-80. I graduated from Bob Jones University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance, and went on to receive a Master of Music degree in Music History from the University of Hartford's prestigious Hartt School, graduating in 2015. While still in college, I was a music tutor at North Star in Hadley For two years. I worked one-on-one with students in middle school on both voice and guitar. During my time there, I taught kids anything from different chords on the guitar, to breath support and passion in one's singing, to vocal improvisation and stage confidence. For beginners I typically start with the Piano Adventure series, and supplement with other familiar tunes for holidays. Depending on interest, students will receive additional music. From early intermediate level I assign music from baroque, classical, romantic or modern eras, and technical exercises like Hannon or Czerny. Students are encouraged to bring music they would like to play. I customize short technical exercises to help in finger dexterity. I have developed a method for guitar students of all ages to quickly learn chords and scales so that they can not only learn the chord progression to songs, they can also find the correct scale to "solo" and improvise over them. Once the chord structure and scale are learned I accompany the student, playing along with them so that they can practice playing with another musician and soloing.
