I won the grand-prize and special prize in National Youth wind instrument players contest (1985) competition at the age of 19, and made my concerto debut with the State Opera Orchestra later that year. I got my Bachelor degree from Music College in 1985, and Master's Degree from Gnessin Academy of Music - 1990, Moscow, Russia. I am a very hands-on teacher. We do lots of improvisation and call and response games and sometimes I turn on a record or even bring a guitar to jam with the student. Playing drums is a very visceral, tactile excersize, and I often tell students, "That right there,that is how it's supposed to sound! Memorize that feeling and try to recreate it everytime." This will enhance dexterity and continued strength as well as develop new fingering capabilities to enable the student towards more advanced songs they like or even want to compose!   Formal teaching material will consist of Faber or Thompson; though if the student prefers Alfred, Bastien or Snell, I can work with these. All of these options are good. For beginning students I prefer to start with "on staff" instead of "off staff." I do not start off with metronomes, but will consider later on with the student where this may be needed (i.e. technical attention to the composer’s original intent, prep for adjudications, desired effect with own creative music, waltz or marching songs, etc.). Haeyoon is currently a part of the prestigious studio of Aldo Parisot at the Yale School of Music as she pursues her Artist Diploma. She is an avid chamber musician at Yale and in her community as an active member of several chamber groups. Her Yale piano trio has been selected to perform at the prestigious Vista Chamber Concert, after having been selected from several nominated groups throughout Yale. Recently they have also won the Chamber Music Competition held across all intrumentations and performed the Piano Trio in C Major by Johannes Brahms at the Winners Concert in May 2012. Read More
