My teaching style is best referred to as a facilitator. Essentially, I promote self-learning, helping students develop critical thinking skills and retain knowledge that leads to self-actualization. I prefer to guide students by letting them think for themselves, pointing out when mistakes are made but also encouraging them to learn and grow from them. For beginning students on saxophone, I typically start with fundamentals like Sound production with long tones, embouchure exercises, A Tune A Day by C. Paul Herfurth. Once the student as progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire across several genre of music as well appropriate for their first recital performance. I have a great love of Jazz and the American Song Book.I attended Berklee School of Music and studied arranging and Jazz Composition and graduated magnum cum laude. I have developed a method for guitar students of all ages to quickly learn chords and scales so that they can not only learn the chord progression to songs, they can also find the correct scale to "solo" and improvise over them. Once the chord structure and scale are learned I accompany the student, playing along with them so that they can practice playing with another musician and soloing. I love both teaching and performing voice and piano to all ages. My greatest passion is getting to share my love and lifelong pursuit of music with my students, no matter their level. When I am not teaching, I am often performing as a soprano soloist with prominent groups in Boston and around the country.
