My teach experience began in my freshman year of college when I worked as a string/theory instructor at the Lake Country Conservatory of Music in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin where I worked with students of all ages and skill levels. I have worked as a private instructor for almost eight years now and have only grown to love it more with every lesson that I conduct. Nothing fulfills me more than seeing a student perform, whether it is at a concert or competition, because seeing the musical and expressive growth that has been cultivated come out through the student is an absolutely beautiful experience. It's important to make sure that my students are both enjoying their lessons and learning. I use short games and activities to keep my younger students excited about lessons and so they don't get overloaded during lessons with a ton of information. I enjoy teaching my students how to set and adjust goals for themselves so they know what they're working towards. I try to keep what I do relevant to what my students want to learn; Read More

My teaching experience started back when I was a teenager and I provided lessons from my home. I have also taught in my church on occasion. I love seeing kids as well as adults learning to play music as I feel as they get enjoyment out of it just as I did when I first started learning to play. When I teach I like to recommend regular practice not just with kids but with adults as well as it builds progress when they come in for their lessons. Read More

For beginning piano students who are children, we will typically either start with Alfred or Piano Adventures series. I find that both these series introduce the concepts of technique, theory, solo playing, and terminology in ways that help them learn effectively. Depending on the age, they will be placed in either early beginner's series or the beginner series. For adults, I look at what they are interested in and build a course for them based on that. I have taught from both the FJH and Berklee series of guitar and theory books. My lessons revolve around three parts: 1- Lessons from books of the appropriate level. We choose a book that suits the student, and there are weekly assignments from the book. 2- Theory work, usually focusing on the Blues form. My teaching of pop, rock, country, folk, etc. all goes back to the blues form. The music theory work also supports the students growing musical knowledge. 3- The student's choice of music. Read More

For piano, I use the Faber, Snell, Alfred and Marlais methods to the end of Level 6. These would include a lesson, technique, theory and performance books. Dozen a Day is included along with Czerny and Hanon in later levels. For voice, the younger students use Patterns of Sound, with scales, theory, performance and diaphragm exercise are included. Older students start with the the Liebling lesson book after a scale testing is done to see what range they sing in. Read More

My teaching style is very simple. With the fundamentals in place, it's possible to learn any song you want to. If there's a song that goes beyond a student's fundamentals, then that's what we'll learn next. As my music teachers told me, if you listen to a record and you find something on it that you don't know how to play, go back and learn how to do it! Listening and learning is essential to playing the music that you want to be able to play as quickly as possible. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
