For beginning students, I begin with basic open chords and scales. Once the student has basic chords down I like to teach them a song of there choosing. Music is my biggest passion and something I love sharing with my students. I first began taking music lessons at the age of nine and quickly took to piano. A few years later I also began studying the violin. At a young age I fell in love with music and its ability to express emotion and connect people. This is what I hope to pass on to my students. Teaching in a traditional style, the method books primarily used are Alfred's Prep Course, and Faber. For the very young (4-5 years old), I have had great success using Music for Little Mozarts. I encourage independent sight reading with additional books of holiday songs and fun songs. Each level includes theory and/or note speller books. For the very young, I include note spelling games. I also allow students to perform their own compositions and help them notate on staff paper to understand rhythm and theory as applied in their own creations. Read More

Piano - I find that no one method book is completely standalone, so i incorporate several method books...Piano Adventures, John Thompson's course, Piano Pronto, and some self-composed music for my youngest students!  Intermediate-level pianists start choosing some of their own repertoire as well. I started teaching piano at age 16 after being certified by my own instructor. I had one student I saw weekly and though at first she was against the piano, I worked with her intensely on genres and styles that she enjoyed playing. I also substituted for my piano instructor when she was sick and taught a plethora of children. When I volunteered at the local elementary school, I taught grade schoolers piano on the upright in the auditorium and that's when I fell in love with inspiring future musicians. Read More
