For beginning piano students who are children, I usually begin with Alfred's Basic Piano Library or James Bastien. Once the student has grasped a good level of fundamentals, I begin to introduce level appropriate solo repertoire pieces not only of my choosing, but of the students choosing as well. For adults, I allow the student to guide by interests. If an adult student is interested in learning to read, then I begin with Alfred's Adult All-in-one Course: Lesson, Theory, Teaching. Read More

My philosophy is a student-first philosophy. I like to cultivate a curriculum around what my student is interested in learning about, whether that be music theory, improvisation, crafting chord progressions and solos, or learning specific songs. I come from a pop/jazz background, and love to work with students on learning songs they loveit keeps the lessons both engaging and educational. Students who are interested in pursuing music in some capacity, or those who wish to improve their chops: I am the teacher for you! Read More

I am familiar with most of the teaching methods available, so my choice of teaching method is tailored to the needs of each student. One student may be working with Schaum's Pre-A Book, while another might be starting out with Thompson's Teaching Little Fingers to Play. This is all to say that there isn't one method that is perfect for all students. My experience with so many approaches helps me to give my students the best possible learning experience. Read More

I really just want people to enjoy what their doing. I definitely have some skills to efficiently practice, because I dont think anyone wants to waste time. The best thing is when my students are invested in their own progress, because I can help provide the needed skills to grow at different paces. I am a bit more relaxed with students that just want to have a positive musical experience, but I also can be very specific with students that wish to go on and study or perform music professionally. No matter my students age or initial skill level, whether they are a college student, a child, or an adult, I work to bring out their potential and guide them towards a fresh passion for music. I treat each student as their own individual and guide them along at their own pace. Each lesson, I set whatever goals I believe they can reach by next lesson, and I encourage them to experiment or find music they're interested in to make each lesson a fun experience. Read More
