My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time , and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio and music schools for the last 15 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've been playing piano for 45 years, and have taken private lessons a total of 15 years with three different teachers.  Music is my passion, and so is teaching, so it brings me a lot of joy to share this with my students.  Music has taken me down many avenues in my life, starting at a young age.  My family are all musicians, so it has been a constant in my life.  At one point I played for church, and as a teenager I played for a ballet class.  Like I mentioned before, I've done many weddings and funerals, and look for any opportunity to play piano. Edward is a lead tenor who has performed roles ranging from The Mayor, in "Bye, Bye, Birdie" to Adonis, in John Blow's baroque opera, "Venus & Adonis".  As a flutist, his repertoire ranges from early music to that of living and contemporary composers, and he has taught private students and classes at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp(MI), the Oberlin(OH) City Schools, the Avon(OH) Public Schools, and the Livonia(MI) Public Schools. My husband is in the Air Force so I have had the opportunity to teach students all over the country for over 15 years. I like using the Faber books so that the students learn their notes, theory, and all aspects of music. For beginning piano students, I use Alfred's All-in-one Piano Course books. These books combine repertoire and theory, thereby cutting down on the number of books a new student needs to purchase. I use a variety of materials for voice students. I may ask that my voice students purchase books of repertoire that contain songs useful for building on their strengths and working on their weaknesses. I started songwriting in my senior year but it wasnt until attending college that I took it seriously and pursued a career in original music. I grew up always listening to old-school RB and hip-hop, due to my family background and experiencing life as a young black American, so this style of music has a big influence in my life.
