I am a piano instructor that loves sharing my musical knowledge with students and watching them progress. I just recently graduated from the University of Alabama in early May with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance. I have been studying piano for almost twelve years. During my time as an undergraduate, I performed in recitals, taught private lessons to students, and accompanied for vocalists and instrumentalists. For beginning students, I like to start with some starting note learning drills on paper or going through some beginner books. I am a firm believer in that the more a student practices reading music, the easier it will come. I realize that some students learn music better by ear, and I will work to develop that skill alongside the essentials of reading the music on paper. As they progress, I hope to introduce different kinds of solo music in order to teach different skills and techniques that are involved, while still keeping the music fun and accomplishing the goals that the student wants to accomplish. For piano, I use Faber instructional books for piano. I teach music theory which include but not limited to scales, rhythm, etc. I give instruction on music vocabulary and literature. Furthermore, students learn some music history which includes the different eras and composers. Also, I teach vocal pedagogy which includes but not limited to breathing and phonation. I work hard to help students develop and cultivate their passion for music and playing music well for others.
