I am a versatile music teacher. As an undergraduate at Ithaca College, I learned each band and orchestra instrument from the college instructor. For example, I learned to play the oboe from the oboe professor. We had to make our own reeds and use them to play our final exam. From there I began taking piano lessons up until I went to study music at the University of California Santa Barbara. At UCSB I studied music composition and recording at the UCSB College of Creative Studies. My husband is in the Air Force so I have had the opportunity to teach students all over the country for over 15 years. I like using the Faber books so that the students learn their notes, theory, and all aspects of music. I prefer to teach my students the way I was taught, by learning to read and write music. There are students who prefer to learn by ear, but written instruction is always best for countless reasons. I use a combination of my own introductory lessons (which I customize depending on the age and maturity of the student) with published books and materials.
