I like to select a basic book on fundamentals supplemented with blues, popular, or jazz or seasonal music to Motivate the student. There will be some attention to scales and how chords are built along with other theory as it applies to the pieces they are studying. Some attention is required due to the cycle of fifths and why some keys are selected more than others. I expect the student to review our lesson no less that 4 times a week and not all at once just before the next lesson. Read More

I have experience of teaching children and adults for over 30 years and have worked with students in Russia, Canada and USA. My teaching experience started in 1984 in Russia, when I was a college student. Those days I worked part time at music school. Then I taught private lessons in Vancouver, Canada for 6 years. I have been teaching lessons in my home studio in Lutz, Florida since 2009. I love to encourage my students to learn how to play many different genres to have a clear idea that music is endless and they always can find music pieces that they really enjoy playing. Read More

I began to take music lessons 20 years ago. When it came time for me to choose a degree and career path, I sought the idea of music therapy - using music to benefit and help others. After learning that career did exist, I completed my education and training to become a board certified music therapist (MT-BC). I understand deeply on a personal and cognitive level the importance of music, and how it shapes and moulds a person's personality and ability to connect with the world around them. Read More

Despite having had classical piano training via Trinity College of Music and the Royal Schools of Music at an early age, I have always appreciated music of every genre. So as a child I took the responsibility of learning to play other styles on my own. It quickly became obvious not only to me but to my fellow classical students that I had a huge advantage over all the other students in the real music world, because I could appeal to a much wider audience. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 23 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 20+ years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin
I have found some terrific methods that get students playing VIOLIN well right away and building up their muscles and endurance. For the first 4 books students get to play along with CDs so their intonation is honed; they learn to "keep up with others playing" and they are encouraged to stick with it through each piece. Later, the harder things like reading music notation, scales, vibrato and the positions are added. Read More

I am not a teacher who uses specific method books. I use books based on the student's musical preferences or sometimes none at all. A good technique is always emphasized. My area of expertise is Sight Reading. This is an essential aspect of learning to play any instrument. A good sight reader is always able to learn their pieces faster and be better performers. A typical 'first lessons' for beginners is the exploration of the instrument, its tonal qualities, how the instrument works, and the creation of their own music on the instrument. Read More
