Hey there! I'm a private voice and piano teacher, actor, and singer performing profressionally in both musical theatre and opera. I have both an undergraduate degree in Voice Performance from the University of Colorado (Boulder), and masters degrees in the same from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. I teach the student as much as they can absorb while making sure they understand the material.I have never run out of material to teach.I teach proper technique and about scales because every song written is based on scales.I also work on songs with the student at the same time so they can see and understand how the songs and scales are used together.After the basics are understood we move on to songs the student wants to learn.I can also tailor lessons to a students wants or needs if desired.I have been doing this quite a while and understand what works. When students are being lazy I call them out on it by saying something like, "What is that?"  It shakes them up and makes them realize I catch every mistake.  It's done in a lighthearted way so that the students feel comfortable with me as I do not want to drive away students who fear their teacher.  Comfort and discipline are imperative to help them achieve their goals.  If a student feels comfortable with their instrument they are more willing to practice and achieve a higher goal of performance. I like to select a basic book on fundamentals supplemented with blues, popular, or jazz or seasonal music to Motivate the student. There will be some attention to scales and how chords are built along with other theory as it applies to the pieces they are studying. Some attention is required due to the cycle of fifths and why some keys are selected more than others. I expect the student to review our lesson no less that 4 times a week and not all at once just before the next lesson. Read More

I begin with developing sheet music literacy in my students right off the bat if they have no experience in reading music. I believe music literacy is one of the most important aspects of learning an instrument. I've always said, "not being able to read sheet music is like trying to be a writer who can't read, it makes no sense". I also begin with teaching proper form. For the begining for those students that they don't know music i teach them the basic, for example i start with the rhythm and after the fundamentals. They are going to learn how to read simple notes. Once they have a grasp of the fundamentals they are ready to be introduce into the piano. For the students that already know the concept and how to play the instrument, I ask where they are and I continue to provide them more so they can continue in there progress. Read More

I started taking piano lessons at age of five and already knew that it would be my career’s path. I always loved everything that related to music: dancing, composing, and singing in a school choir. I participated in many recitals, competitions winning some prizes, so it became clear I could not see my life without music.
