I've had the opportunity to play in various concert halls in the DFW area, including the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum, the Fort Worth Woman's Club, Nicholas Martin Hall, and Alkek Recital Hall. I focus on indvidualizing the lesson to the student. Every student has different goals, dreams, and personalities. I typically use the Faber Books for piano, Hal Leonard for guitar and ukulele, and I work in sight-reading with my voice students. I also work in music theory when appropriate, and enjoy explaining the "why" behind how music works. I'm also a singer-songwriter and have tunes on Spotify Apple Music. I like to have my students always preparing for something, whether it is an audition, recital, or competition. We do this by working on a combination of solos, etudes, fundamentals, duets, and sight-reading activities. My teaching style is just like most I think. I don't rush with the students. Always trying to go slow and make sure the students understands everything. I've gotten pretty good at figuring out when the students get what I'm trying to teach. If I feel like I'm going to fast I'll stop think about what I'm doing and slow down. Typically, I like to start every lesson by spending some time working on specific vocal techniques. Good fundamentals are very important - developing good singing habits while getting rid of bad ones is key to consistent improvement. I believe that as a teacher, the best thing I can do for a student is to give them the tools to succeed outside of the lesson.
