Hi, my name is Caroline, and I began playing at the age of 3, formal training at age 5, studying with professional pianists all the way through college. I am classically trained, and studied classical piano as well as Jazz in college and beyond. I enjoy learning and teaching all types of music, including composition and improvisation. Perfection is not important to me. What is important is that my students strive and become the best that they can be. I want to instill in them the desire to reach their goals. That being said, I believe every student will work at their own pace. We will work together on goals that are realistic during the time frame. My experience as a music teacher has been simply giving beginner lessons to friends on the violin, or giving others a few lessons on music theory and application in piano and accordion. I have a deep love for learning and progression, both in myself and in others, and so I enjoy even the tedious moments of a student's progression as a musician. One of my strengths as a teacher is adaptability. I teach interactively and flexibly, tailoring instruction to each students individual needs and learning style. For students with limited background, I assign simplified arrangements of familiar pieces to sustain motivation. Lastly, I strive to make students feel a sense of fulfillment and motivation while studying with me. I assign goals that are attainable for each student, including giving public performances and participating in competitions whenever possible, as students make remarkable progress by observing peers and performing regularly. It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13. Along the way I have had the honor of meeting and learning from respected musicians such as Lawrence Jackson (former director of SU Bands), Herman Jackson (Brother of Randy Jackson), Jerry Lee Lane (Marching percussion pioneer) and countless others.
