I've been teaching since 2006 at Baldwin - Wallace College, where I became an Adjunct Lecturer in Piano by the recommendation of the piano pedagogy faculty in 2007.  When in town, I've been teaching students primarily from ages 5-25, in traditional repertory and to help other older musicians hone specific skills.  I've taught students who have played in recitals, church services; including students who composed music that appeared in the Cannes International Film Festival, and students who wished to only play privately.  I pride myself in my strong technique which I credit to my background with the Cleveland Institute of Music, which is one of the biggest benefits that my students quickly take on.  I specialize in teaching classical music, and I also teach basic jazz and pop improvisation, to all ages. For the youngest beginners, my focus is on the enjoyment of music. Using either The Music Tree or My First Piano Adventures, I teach children about the elements of music and how to appreciate music, before going into actual technical work on the piano. I primarily teach with The Music Tree (Frances Clark's method) and supplement with pieces from other method books, and prepare children for recitals and performances in the future. Read More

My teaching experience began with arranging and instructing drum line parts for a youth drum corps. After having children of my own, I realized I had a knack for working with children. I began teaching piano and percussion part-time 8 years ago as a way to share my passion for music. I began teaching privately as a high school student, working with begnning students at the middle school. I have taught privately in my home and in students' homes since graduating from college. Regular practice is very important and something I emphasize with my students. I like to include a mixture of classical and modern music in my lessons, so that students enjoy what they are learning and playing. If a student does not enjoy their time playing their instrument, they will not want to put the practice in and lessons will become a point of argument.  Read More

I simply enjoy helping people establish and accomplish their goals on their instruments. The first step is to identify what holds a student's attention. What is it about music that has motivated them to study? Not everyone has the same goal or vision, which is a good thing.
