I started teaching from my home in 1976. I have been teaching at a studio near my home since 1999. I have taught from ages five to sixty-eight, from beginner to advanced. Some of my former students are now professional pianists. I took up the flute in 1985 in order to work with my husband, a classical guitarist, and we have been making beautiful music together. I've had numerous students over the years, and at every lesson try to leave the student with a clear path to follow that is not too demanding, while still leading on to new levels of development. Many techniques I use are self-learned from trial and error.  I've done the work for the student.  This enables the student to make the most progress with limited practice time. I am a creative and enthusiastic teacher who believes that music is for everyone.  Whether you are a child or a teenager or an adult, whether you are experienced or learning for the first time and whether or not you believe you have "talent", music is for you because music is a quality of human expression.  I was provided traditional, classical training in piano from my earliest years, developing excellent technique and an ability to express myself at the piano that I love to share.  I expanded and deepened my understanding of music further with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music History and Theory at Swarthmore College where I also continued to hone my performance skills.  After that, I had a wonderful adventure as a medical doctor with a speciality in family medicine until music called me back again in the summer of 2002.  One thread that is common to both careers has been my consistent love of teaching which I now understand as my true calling. I worked diligently practicing my instrument for hours per day, and build a solid foundation in tempo and understanding of dynamics. Think of if you were asked, "Can you write me a sentence"? but you didn't know the alphabet, how would you write the sentence? It would be difficult or, impossible to do so without the knowledge of using letters to convey the message. I began piano lessons with my mother at the age of 8. At 17 I began studies with Irma Harter at the Edith McIntosh School of Music on Long Island, New York. I earned her Bachelor's degree at Adelphi University, where I studied exclusively with acclaimed concert and recording artist David Bradshaw. I also studied with Laurie Ticehurst-Poole at the Bryn Mawr Conservatory from 1996 to 2005, where I participated in master classes. I have performed in recitals at Carnegie Hall's Weill Concert Hall, and I participated in an international piano festival. Read More

I enjoy working at the begining to intermediate level for children as I get to introduce the earliest piano musical skills and I usually spend thirty minutes on teaching piano practice methods and thirty minutes on music theory skills. Currently, I use books like Dozen a Day, Scales and Hanon to build good finger techniques, John Thompson and John W.Schaum books for songs and theory preparation.
