I encourage those ideas in lessons, and I focus on teaching students to play with musicality. For each individual student, I set reasonable goals for them at the end of each lesson. Most of my lesson plans are customized for each student, depending the style they are interested in, and the level that they are already playing. Generally speaking for beginners, I begin with teaching about the instrument (string names, frets, tuning, etc.). Then we move on to chords, starting with the easiest ones to play. For beginner students who are children, I usually use Faber and faber method series or the Alfred method series. All curriculum is based on age, so that it will help students learn at their own pace and level. Once the student gets to a certain point, I start adding in fun pieces that the child suggest, or might like, to add to what he or she is already learning.
