While I encourage regular practice, I understand that music lessons are not the only thing going on in the students life. The last thing I want to do is create an enviorment in the lesson based soley on home practice. I want these lessons to be fun and engaging, and as such we will learn practice techniques to keep it that way. Read More

I generally choose to use Faber as a method book for all my beginning students, using the age appropriate track for each student ranging from too young to read yet to adult learners. I believe that both the lesson book and the theory books are highly important and necessary. Depending on the student and their wants and needs, other books for each level may be added. Once a basic comprehension of reading music and technique have been achieved, I like to branch out into other repertoire of whichever style or styles are most interesting to the student. Read More

I began teaching shortly before I graduated high school in 2012. My high school had a very successful marching band program and was closely tied with a local drum corps, which helped me become experienced in leading group rehearsals and clinics for drumlines and front ensembles around this time. Leading in to college, I continued this and also began teaching students individually which only helped to underline my love of teaching! Read More

I work with students of all ages, from as young as 4 years old to adult students. I use a variety of methods in my teaching to create a unique program for each student, including the Bastien Method, Faber Method, Music Tree Method, Alfred Method, and the Suzuki Method. My students are welcome to participate in private studio recitals as well as Aurora Music Teachers Association events, including Achievement Day, Four Forms Festival, Composition Festival, and the Adult Potluck. I start with pushing students to develop good habits early on in their playing. I like to get my students playing songs in their genre of choice as soon as possible. This method generates interest in their instrument from the very begining. I select their repetoire based on what techniques we are currently working on and find songs that will force them to develop those techniques in order for them to effectively perform each piece.
