I have been a full time teacher for 5 years. I work with ages as young as 3 and as old as mid 60's. I enjoy the variety in ages as I believe my approach to teaching is one of building a strong musical foundation and I am skilled and flexible to teach these concepts to all ages. I am a singer first and a pianist second. Piano was my first instrument, and then I later went on to study voice at New England Conservatory of Music. Read More

I have been playing trombone since fifth grade, nearly 20 years of experience. I have about 15 years of experience playing the piano and I have learned the other brass instruments out of necessity for my music degree. I can teach trombone and piano at all levels and can teach trumpet, horn, and euphonium to the intermediate level. I always encourage regular practice. It is the only way one can gain experience and grow as a musician. Read More

I enjoy sharing the joy of making music with my students. I studied piano performance at Jacob School of Music and piano pedagogy at Longy School of Music (Cambridge, MA). Born into a musical family, I grew up playing music and ensembles as a family. I also played cello in school orchestra and joined choir as an adult. I have served as an accompanist for singers and instrumentalists in music school, church and private concerts. Read More

I do not take a 'lecture style' approach as I find a lack of practice often has more to do with their fear than anything else. If I can help a student address their fears and help work them through it, more often than that this is what helps them move forward with their practice habits. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my high school days when I began teaching private lessons to members of my church. I continued teaching through college and am currently looking for new students. I have worked with students from ages 4 to 18. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. For beginning students I prefer to use either Alfred's, Mel Bay, or Hal Leonard method books. I generally stay away from method books that use guitar tablature because I find that student will prefer to read the tablature instead of standard musical notation. Tablature is a good way to easily show how guitar parts are played, but is not useful when teaching standard notation, music theory, harmony, etc. In addition to using a method book, I will also teach the student popular songs, which is a great way to start teaching chords and song structure in addition to keeping the lesson fun and the student engaged. But more importantly, she can become her own judge of the sounds she makes. She has obtained an increased appreciation of classical music and improved her sensitivity to musical details. My third student had the strongest background, but the weakest connection to music initially. I have helped her listen rather than play. As she gradually develops a sense of good sound, her playing changed dramatically, and her practice management improved. Read More
