I am a goal setter and overachiever so I like to work with the student to set goals that will not be discouraging. I believe that learning how to play an instrument/sing with others in an ensemble setting helps reinforce what we work on in the lesson. As a multi-instrumentalist, I enjoy finding songs we can eventually play together while implementing technique and structure. I’ve done everything from covers, to song writing, to singing operatic repertoire in 5 different languages. Read More

I am a life-long musician [age 5 - present] from a family of musicians who have played with everyone from Fanny Brice (my grandfather) to Benny Goodman (my mother) to Steve Miller (myself). I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston , MA from 1975-1979 and left (5 weeks short of my degree) to perform in a rock band who toured for 5 years in the US and Canada. Having played everywhere from Red Rocks Ampitheatre in Colorado to Elkhorn Resort in Sun Valley, Idaho to Valdez, Alaska to Cobo Hall in Detroit,Michigan, I have lengthy performance credentials and even more varied experience in the styles and situations that I have performed in that include: rock band, orchestra, concert band, jazz combo, folk duo, Big Band, marching band, drum corps, celtic rock band, traditonal gaelic ceili, flute choir, pit band, church choir, chorus, show choir, vocal solo, commercial voice-overs, vocal duet, musical theatre, etc. Read More

I have been in many shows, such as Into the Woods (Cinderella's Prince), Brundebar (the baker), HMS Pinafore (Captain Cochran), and Gatsby (Nick Carraway). I have also played saxophone with a few collegiate groups, as well as Music directed "Rock of Ages Jr.", and most recently a rolling performance group, Assemglee. Read More

I wholeheartedly believe that the best ingredient for passion is joy. I want all of my students to be enjoying themselves not only during our lessons, but in the practice room as well. As a result I try to keep my lessons incredibly individualized. I learn about my students, what are their favorite styles of music? Favorite songs or bands? I believe there is no wrong starting point in one's musical journey. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 17 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio and private schools/universities for the past 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. A full hour lesson usually consists of an instructional course book, a song or two that the student enjoys plus ear training, theory, harmony or else according to the students' needs, interest and the level. Tailoring the lesson for each student and having fun with him/her is the key! Younger students would need more structure with practice guide and be having more synesthetic activities such as sining, tapping, mild dancing and more. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the music theory basics which will always serve as a strong background to their music knowledge and overall muscle memory. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
