I began giving guitar lessons around the age of 15. I was eventually hired as an instructor at GuitarWorks in Greenwood, Indiana where my teaching experience blossomed. I was able to work with five year olds to fifty year olds of all skill levels and musical interests. Younger children often succeed with more game-oriented lessons, every student is different. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire from my wide collection appropriate to their taste. It is my goal to remove students from methods as soon as possible- somewhere around early intermediate skill level, so that we may engage with more meaningful repertoire from the 'greats', as well as give the students the tools to take agency over their own repertoire choices, including transcriptions of popular media. I use many different methods, and I do not limit myself to the following list. I believe in a warm-up for all instruments, so each lesson will start with one (scales, long tones, etc.) For flute, I often start with either the book that comes with the rental book, old band books, etc. then I venture off into etude books, long tone books, and solos that promote individual development.
