My pedagogy is based on the American jazz tradition and the teachings of Orff and Kodaly. I like to impart a holistic love of music in my students, without boring them with too much history or theory. However, it is my belief that theory and musical literacy will open doors to a greater level of fulfillment and understanding of music as a whole. It is important to adopt a teaching style that is tailored to the individual needs of each student, especially because each student learns at their own pace. Setting goals is one of the first topics I discuss with my students, and then indicate some of the steps they need to take to achieve the goals that they set for themselves. Keeping track of a student's hours of practice and their musical achievements is beneficial for me to determine what new material and concepts to work on, and also allows the student to stay organized and motivated.  Read More

I am a trained Music Therapist, graduated with a Bachelors of Music in Music Therapy, major instrument Piano with secondary instrument Voice. I enjoy working with young children and also those with special needs especially infants to provide sensory stimulation through music therapy. I use Music in therapy to facilitate language, social, movemen/motor and pre-academic skills. I also work with normal range functioning children ages 5 and up, to provide music lessons and music experience specifically Music Theory, piano lessons with accompanied vocal skills when required. The most important thing is that my students enjoy our lesson time together and progress at a pace that is comfortable and encouraging for them. I believe that if the material is too easy and there is no challenge then the students will lose interest. For beginning students, I use Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures, which offers a variety of supplemental material to encourage a variety of styles. As a musician who values both classical music and improvisation, I teach my students how to use chord sheets very soon after they begin to read music. As their skills increase, so will the variety of music I introduce based on their interest. Since I quit piano at one point around age 10, I empathize with struggling students and try to make music as fun and accessible as possible to help them truly grow a lifelong love of music! Read More
