I am a devoted and energetic teacher for all age students who is focused on results and have successes bringing the ability of the student to play effectively from the first lessons. Teaching is accomplished with friendly and caring delivery of new concepts and repetition of new ideas on the keyboard right from the start of lessons. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Piccolo
For my beginning students, I generally start with the book their school teacher wants them to use, or I have students use the Yamaha book 1. If the student begins in middle school or high school, I like to use the Rubank books. I believe that working on solo repertoire is an important part of learning and performing, so I begin my students on solo repertoire as soon as possible. I choose solo works that are in the ability of the student, yet offer enough of a challenge to help the student learn and grow. Read More

I teach students of all levels including adult students. I am a traditional teacher in that I focus on laying a secure foundation to prevent any unnatural habits from blocking the students progress in the future and helping the student become completely independent of the teacher. The student learns the skills necessary to teach themselves. I use a structured approach that involves a set of criteria that the student memorizes and is able to use as a checklist of issues to watch out for when practicing. Read More

My preferred method of teaching for beginner students is my own adaptation of the Thompson method with strong emphasis on theory and technique. A study of intervalic relationships, chords and progressions combined with terminology, sight reading, ear training and form will provide the student with skills which will allow them to play any style and genre of music they desire. Although the Suzuki method seems to be popular today, I have discovered many short comings of this pedagogical approach and often renders a good pianist limited in their capabilities as a well rounded musician. Instruments: Piano Saxophone
I first started teaching back while I was in high school, taking on several students over the summer as they prepared for the upcoming school year. In my lessons back then, I strove to foster a passion for music and the arts in my students by playing through fun music, learning some music theory, and encouraging them to perform in front of their peers. I like to emphasize the power of consistent and efficient practice, regardless of the student's age. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trumpet French Horn
I am a fairly tough teacher: I expect my students to practice, regardless of their ability level. I believe firmly in scales, etudes and technique! I love watching my students figure out how these abstract skills translate into learning music!I use a few different method books for children, depending on theirlearning styles. For adults, I tailor my techniques to their interests and abilities, making it more interesting. Read More
