My lesson styles are geared towards the end goals of the students. As not all students will have the desire to become professional musicians, the ultimate goal is to build lifelong lovers of the arts...and if the student decides that music is a career, then the lessons are geared accordingly. For younger children, the ultimate goal is that their love of the music and instrument will spark their desire for practice and further learning, but that they ENJOY music as an art and experience first. I do not have a specific teaching style. Being a teacher is a learning experience for the teacher just as much as it is for the student. Every student learns a different way and can require a unique way of teaching. No one student will get the same teaching method. Overall, I do approach each lesson with patients, the wanting for the student to succeed and making the lesson fun but also productive. Read More

I attended Wright State University on academic and music scholarships, and graduated, magna cum laude, in 2001, with concentration in organ, piano, and vocal. Read More

At the start of my junior year of high school, I began teaching piano to a handful of students in my small town. It was such an exciting experience! I taught a few very young students whose moms wanted them to try out the instrument and learn some fundamentals, and I taught a few older students who just wanted to know how to play some of their favorite songs. With all of my students, I paid attention to their unique needs and goals, and I worked together with them to fashion out a path that would best achieve their personal goals. Read More

I like to learn what my students musical interests are as soon as possible and then to do all I can to nurture that. Since music is something which is played for an audience its important to find them an audience to perform for . It can be just mom and dad, the Girl Scouts campfire sing along, a jam session at the local coffeehouse or sitting in at a blues or jazz jam if no formal recitals are available. Read More
