My musical career started as a singer growing up in Washington DC. I have been playing saxophone for almost 15 years and have been composing for 8. I have maintained a private studio for 6 years and have taught students from 8-18. I have lots of experience singing and playing in lots of different genres of music and have always maintained the importance of being able to play in multiple genres. My own compositions blend jazz, hip hop, and contemporary music together, and my students are enriched with the knowledge that I bring from all those genres. Read More

I started teaching Privately in 2007 and have continued off and on since. I have worked with students in Woodwind and Brass either privately or in a school setting. Also, I had the opportunity to work with multiple schools ensembles and marching bands. I encourage all of my students to maintain a constant practice schedule in order to work toward our goals. My teaching experience dates back to my pre-college/ post high school days where I was a volunteer director of a community ensemble in Jamaica. This opportunity opened doors for me to teach music theory and private saxophone and flute lessons in a community based project that was geared towards using music for social development and change in the inner city youth. I eventually moved on to the college setting where I served as a Graduate Assistant who had the responsibility of providing private and supplemental lessons to students who were enrolled in the University, all while operating a private studio of my own. Developing respect and passion for music is paramount in music lessons. I don't believe in forcing method books and content that, at the end of the day, the student doesn't care about, on my students, they should have a voice in what their being taught. I tailor my teaching style to fit every single student differently. Young players must learn scales and etudes, but that is usually only for half of the lesson; the other half usually consists of finding inspirational performances and pieces that will be FUN for the both of us to learn. Typically when I begin with children I incorporate the Hoffman Method and Books such as the Little Mozarts books, Alfred, Faber and Master Theory. I allow for children to learn fundamentals in a fun way so they can begin to read music and perform if they are interested. Students get to learn the basics like Mary had a little lamb, hot cross buns, jingle bells, and other fun tunes.
