What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Practicing plays a very essential role in learning any subject. Practicing helps complete your goals and dreams you have set in life. When a student is not with their instructor, it is very important to practice in a nice quiet environment. This will help the mind to concentrate and focus in areas that need the most help. Always warm up before playing any music because this is another opportunity to prepare the mind to focus on work and will help the mood of the surroundings. Accomplishments will be met during practice time.

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
Honestly I did not choose my instrument. My music teacher started a program for 3rd graders and he basically handed us all instruments and told us he will teach us how to become professional musicians. I trusted my band director and he lead us to be great teachers. I started off on the flute, but I advanced on clarinet and this has became my primary instrument. I also advanced on the saxophone once I mastered the flute and clarinet. Its all about birthing something great through our students and that is music.

Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
At the age of 9 my music teacher introduced me to music and then taught me how to play three instruments. I became very advanced on the clarinet at a very young age. Within one year I was playing for the Chicago symphony youth orchestra sitting 1st chair. As he continue to inspire me, I had the opportunity to become apart of the Jamie Aebersold camp in Louisville Kentucky. He instilled in me dedication, determination, and how the heart ruled my life. Those three components help me keep music alive through out the 25 years that I have been playing my instrument.

When will I start to see results?
Learning to play a instrument can be a challenging task for some students. Having the right instructor teaching proper techniques can show a small improvement within a month of the student learning how to play their instrument. A student will not improve if they are only practicing in their scheduled lessons. Students have to practice before and after their lesson on their own time in order to improve on the assigned instruments. Parent involvement is very important because it will motivate the student to get better over time.

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Many people love music and Children will show their passion for music through their interaction once the music start to play on the radio. Depending on how he/she acts towards music, their interest level in playing a instrument, and how often they are joining musical activities will give a parent the ideal of private musical lessons for their children. A child can start as early as 5 years old to learn how to read music and at the age of 6 they can actually have the concept and be ready to play a instrument.
