I am a nurturer. I teach with caring, passion and support of all my students. It's not just enough show students how to play a note or read a rhythm, but how to use that knowledge in everyday life. I like to build a positive working relationship with my students. This way they look forward to their lesson, not only because they are comfortable around me, but because they are growing and learning about music and it's relationship to life. Read More

There are many acceptable method books for beginning students, however, I have found that if a student gets relatively comfortable on their instrument before trying to decipher a grand staff, they seem to enjoy the learning experience more. The hardest part of teaching music, in my opinion, is the educational content that isn't in a method book. Finding someone who can play your instrument better than you can often be more inspirational than finding a new piece that is slightly out of your comfort zone or using a method book that, at the end of the day, is supposed to help a student reach the ability level of the person the student aspires to be. No matter what, I try to foster personal artistry as a primary goal for my students. That means that they should leave my lessons with one step closer to playing the type of music they want, whether it's in a band class or on stage with a jazz group. I start by teaching the fundamentals and making sure that the student has basic competency in the instrument and in general music knowledge to begin creating music by themselves. Read More

One of my greatest joys have always been to see my students make progress and express how happy they are with themselves after working hard, and this is one of my greatest motivations to teach and give teaching all that I've got. As a private studio instructor, I encourage my students to keep detailed notes of our lessons and record their practice sessions and discoveries in that same note book for this helps with organization and focus, thus eliminating the need for aimless practicing and playing of ones instrument. I encourage the individual to find what they love about what they're doing to spark growth and personal development. I use real world scenarios and applications for my students to relate and apply their learning through the playing of their instrument. From my pedagogical teachings ive learned that the best approach is a differentiated one. One that is diverse yet unique to the learner and/ or group of learners. I use a linguistic and analytical yet methodological approach to teaching that I find to be VERY Efficient! Read More
